We aim to address and learn from community-based micro hydro projects that have failed due to participation, poor quality hardware, and lack of proven technical support.
Establish Local Peer Support
We connect village communities and local experts so that they can learn from one another other, rather than from outside consultants who have abandoned their projects. We create spaces for villages to mentor each other.
Create Knowledge Exchange
Often the stakeholders in charge of implementing projects are inexperienced. We connect experienced NGOs and reputed consultants to inexperienced but driven implementers. We provide a database of consultants and suppliers rated by the Peer Hydro Network.
Provide Exposure to Micro Hydro
Although decentralized electrification with renewable energy is an acknowledged solution amongst policy makers of sustainable rural development, most are not aware of micro hydro.
We provide exposure of micro hydro to field NGOs, local government officials, and funders.
Conduct Training
Once higher level stakeholders are exposed to micro hydro, we go to the next step of conducting training to driven stakeholders both at the field and policy levels.
Ideate for Funds
Thus far the majority of funds for micro hydro have originated in bi-lateral aid. However, most countries have local government programs for renewable energy in rural areas. Peer Hydro works with government policy makers, NGOs, and funding agencies to help access these funds.
